Advantages of tooth grinding:

Disadvantages of tooth grinding:
 
For the spiral bevel gear made of Gleason arc shrinking teeth, when the transmission ratio is relatively large, because the shape of the large gear tooth profile of the spiral bevel gear movement pair is close to a straight line, the forming method is used to improve production efficiency. When the cylindrical grinding wheel is used to directly grind the tooth surface, the grinding wheel and the tooth surface will have full tooth surface contact, not only because the coolant is difficult to enter the grinding contact area, it is easy to burn the tooth surface but also makes chip removal very difficult.
 
The instantaneous temperature in the grinding area can generally reach 800-1200°C, which is very easy to form grinding burns and make the surface show a variety of colors.
 
The color change only reflects the more serious burn phenomenon, but when the color of the gear tooth surface does not change, the surface metallographic structure may also have been burned and changed (that is, dark burn).
 
Under high-speed, heavy-duty use conditions, the loss of physical and mechanical properties of the gear tooth surface caused by dark burns will inevitably affect the performance of the gear.
